I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Annual potting mix replacement refreshes Lakewood containers that remain planted with permanent specimens year after year. Nutrients deplete over time, media structure degrades with repeated watering cycles, and disease organisms accumulate in old growing mixes. Fresh mix each spring gives permanent container plantings a healthy restart.

Try Our CalculatorRaised bed gardening in Lakewood is a smart way to bypass the city's clay-heavy native soil for vegetable and herb production. Build beds at least 12 inches deep using cedar or dry-stacked stone, then fill with a blend of two-thirds screened topsoil and one-third bulk compost. Position beds on a south-facing exposure to maximize sun between Lakewood's last frost on May 5 and first frost on October 5, approximately 153 frost-free days ideal for warm-season crops.
Delivering to Lakewood, Colorado
Primary ZIP: 80228Native plantings in Lakewood neighborhoods dramatically reduce irrigation and maintenance while supporting local pollinators throughout the growing season. Blue Oat Grass, Penstemon, and Rocky Mountain Phlox are Zone 6a-adapted choices that establish well in Lakewood's clay soil and thrive on the city's 40 annual inches of rainfall once past their first summer. Underplant natives with 2 to 3 inches of shredded wood mulch to retain moisture during establishment and gradually improve soil structure as it decomposes.
