I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Muskegon Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
In Muskegon, lake-effect winds and warm summer sun can dry out garden beds faster than in inland areas. Applying mulch at a depth of 3 to 4 inches helps lock in soil moisture and regulate temperature through the growing season. Avoid piling mulch directly against plant stems or tree trunks, as this invites rot and pest issues. A consistent layer across all beds reduces your watering needs significantly from spring through fall.

Try Our CalculatorMuskegon gardeners should take advantage of the window between the last frost around May 12 and the heat of summer to establish new perennial beds. Planting in late May gives roots time to settle before the warmest months arrive. Topping new beds with a fresh layer of bulk mulch right after planting locks in that early-season moisture and gives plants a strong start through the growing season.

Primary ZIP: 49442+3 ZIP codes
If you want to grow vegetables or flowers in Muskegon, raised beds filled with a blended topsoil and compost mix can outperform native sandy loam on its own. Raised beds drain well after heavy rain yet hold more nutrients than ground-level planting. A bulk delivery of topsoil blend gives you the volume needed to fill multiple beds at once without hauling countless bags from a garden store.
