Neighborhoods climbing toward Sehome Hill and Alabama Hill deal with slope runoff, while flatter ground near the Nooksack River delta around Ferndale and Lynden stays soggy through the 38 inches of annual rain. Add the deep shade of native cedar and Douglas fir, and beds here need coarse bark mulch that breathes rather than fine material that mats. We haul compost, drain rock, and Chuckanut style boulders throughout Whatcom County, including Birch Bay, Blaine, and the wooded lots of Sudden Valley.
