I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Lynden's fertile silt loam is a gift, but decades of tractor and mower traffic compact it into a dense pan. Break the cycle by topdressing lawns each September with a half inch of screened compost, then core aerate so the material drops into the holes. Two seasons of this rebuilds pore space and cuts the standing puddles that plague flat Lynden lots after November rain.

Try Our CalculatorWind is an underrated problem on Lynden's open farmland lots. With few mature windbreaks between fields, dry east outflow in winter desiccates evergreens and lifts loose mulch right off beds. Use medium or coarse bark rather than fine fir dust on exposed sides of the house, and plant a staggered hedge of arborvitae or native shrubs on the windward edge to slow the flow before it hits your beds.

Primary ZIP: 98264Nooksack floodplain groundwater sits high under much of Lynden, and that shallow water table drowns roots long before homeowners notice. Before planting a specimen tree, dig a test hole eighteen inches deep and fill it with water. If it has not drained within a day, build a raised berm of topsoil twelve to eighteen inches above grade and plant into that instead of fighting the water table.
Get Started with Mulch mound Today
Lynden sits in the heart of Whatcom County farm country, where deep Nooksack valley silt loam has fed dairy pastures for generations. That agricultural heritage shows up in the yards, with big lawns, long driveways, and vegetable plots that need real volume. Bulk garden soil and aged compost fit those dimensions far better than retail bags. Trucks reach properties north toward the Canadian border with no trouble.
