Mulch Mound made it so easy! So happy with the pricing, turn around time, delivery and product. I submitted my online order on a Thursday. The mulch was delivered to the designated location by a local landscape company at 8:30 a.m. the following Saturday morning. We had the job completed by that afternoon. We chose the natural brown mulch, and the plant beds are beautiful.

Calculate mulch for your Carlisle project
For Carlisle's Silt Loam type of soil, we recommend 2-3 inches for best weed suppression and moisture retention
Try Our CalculatorFor Carlisle's humid continental climate, 2–3 inches of mulch balances moisture retention with weed control. Use the satellite trace tool to map out beds and tree rings, then adjust depth based on how established your plantings are.
Best Mulch Choice for Carlisle Lawns
Most yards in the Carlisle area sit on Silt Loam type of soil. It can hold moisture well, but it may compact at the surface and get slick or crusty after heavy rain.
Hardwood Mulch
A layer of hardwood mulch reduces surface crust, limits erosion, and helps keep moisture consistent through hot weeks.
Complete Your Outdoor Mulch Project
Thinking beyond mulch? Fresh soil gives Carlisle plants a stronger start, and stone defines walkways and borders. Order what you need in one trip.
Skip the black plastic under mulch in planting areas. Unlike fabric, plastic traps water, kills beneficial soil biology, and breaks into fragments you will be picking out for years. It causes more harm than good.
Never use mulch that smells strongly of ammonia when delivered. This indicates anaerobic decomposition that produces compounds toxic to plants. Air it out completely for several days before applying anywhere.
Water your beds thoroughly a day before mulching to prepare the soil. Moist soil holds mulch in place better than dry soil, and you will not be compacting wet material under your feet as you work.
The Unique Landscape of Carlisle
Mulch keeps beds tidy while doing real work for your plants. Carlisle freeze–thaw and spring rain can beat up beds if materials aren’t refreshed. In Carlisle, Pennsylvania, mulch keeps beds cleaner, reduces weeds, and helps moisture stay more consistent. It reduces weeds, keeps moisture steadier, and makes plantings pop. 2–3 inches is the sweet spot—keep it pulled back from trees and shrubs. Choose natural hardwood for a classic look, or dyed mulch for bold contrast. Bulk delivery saves you the bag runs and puts the material right where you want it.
