One of the easiest customer service experiences I've had in a long time! Mulch Mound made it so simple. After putting it off for a while, I looked at the weather and knew I needed to get to mulching ASAP before the rain came if I didn't want to wait another week. I put my order in for the next day online and they came right at 9 AM. The employee who dropped off the mulch did a great job, putting it right on the tarp I laid out, she even made sure none of it got on the yard and double checked the truck bed to make sure it all came out. The mulch was exactly what I needed and arrived right on time.
Most Davenport customers laying rock also order landscape fabric to keep the silt loam beneath from working up through the stone over time. Edging material helps hold a clean line where rock meets lawn, especially useful if the bed borders a slope toward the river side of the property.
Lay landscape fabric before you spread rock, not after, and overlap seams by at least 6 inches since Davenport's silt loam wicks moisture upward and will push fine sediment through gaps over a few seasons. Skipping fabric means weeds root directly in the rock bed within a year or two, especially in beds that catch runoff from downspouts during spring storms.
Rock traps fallen leaves instead of breaking them down, and Davenport's maple and oak canopy sheds heavily by mid October, right around first frost. Plan on blowing or raking leaves out of rock beds every fall before they mat down and smother the stone's drainage function, otherwise you'll be pulling compacted leaf litter out of the rock by spring.
Order the full amount up front rather than staging deliveries, since rock is a one time install and running short mid project means a second delivery fee and a visible seam where old and new stone don't quite match in color. Buying slightly over is cheaper in the long run than a return trip for one more partial yard.
Davenport's silt loam drains slowly, especially on the lower ground near the river where standing water is common after spring rain. Rock over landscape fabric sheds that moisture instead of holding it against your foundation, which matters with a last frost as late as April 25 and heavy freeze thaw cycling through zone 5b winters. It's a common choice for downspout aprons and foundation beds near the Centennial Bridge neighborhoods where basements and moisture management are a real concern. Just know it won't feed the soil the way mulch does, so keep it away from beds where you want plants to thrive long term.

Spread river rock 2 to 3 inches deep over landscape fabric so it stays put and weeds stay down. Lay decomposed granite 3 to 4 inches deep, wet it, and compact it in lifts for a surface that sheds water instead of rutting.
