I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Container gardening is a smart strategy for Bogota homeowners who want big seasonal color and texture without a lot of available ground space. Use a high-quality potting mix blended with perlite for all containers rather than straight topsoil, which compacts quickly inside pots and restricts root growth. In zone 7a, start container plantings outdoors after April 10 and plan to move tender specimens to a sheltered spot before October 29 to protect them from the first frost. Large decorative urns filled with trailing annuals and upright grasses can completely transform a front stoop or small patio into a genuine focal point.

Try Our CalculatorIn Bogota, where residential lots are typically compact and beds often sit close to foundations, keeping mulch at a consistent two to three inch depth is important for both plant health and moisture management. Bogota's clay loam soil already retains water well, so refreshing the existing layer rather than piling new mulch on top of old each year prevents the thick buildup that can suffocate shallow roots and create conditions that attract slugs and fungal problems through the wet summer months.
Delivering to Bogota, New Jersey
Primary ZIP: 07603+1 ZIP codes
Bogota homeowners looking to renovate thin or patchy lawn areas will get the strongest results from a fall seeding in mid-September, several weeks ahead of the October 29 first frost. Top-dressing with a quarter inch of screened topsoil or compost immediately after overseeding improves seed-to-soil contact and helps retain moisture during germination. Zone 7a conditions give new grass enough warm days to root in before winter dormancy, setting it up for a full and healthy green-up the following spring.
