Fortuna Foothills spreads across the alluvial fans that run down from the Gila Mountains, so yards here sit on sandy loam laced with caliche and desert pavement gravel washed off the range. At roughly 345 feet of elevation with about three inches of rain a year and Zone 10a heat that never really quits, organic mulch burns off fast and irrigation water disappears before roots ever taste it. That is why so many properties along the Foothills corridor lean on decorative rock and rip rap in the washes, with bark or compost saved for citrus wells and shaded courtyards. We haul the same blends south into Yuma, out to Somerton, and down toward San Luis, where heavier river bottom soils near the Colorado call for a different mix entirely. Snowbird season means half the neighborhood wants beds refreshed between October and March, and we plan loads around it.
