I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Fowler Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Fowler gardeners planting native or Mediterranean-climate shrubs should time their installations for late October through early November, just ahead of the first frost window but while soil temperatures are still warm enough to encourage root establishment. Planting during this window gives shrubs several months of mild, moist weather to develop strong root systems before facing their first full summer. Topping each new planting with three inches of bulk mulch seals in soil warmth and moisture during the critical establishment period.

Try Our CalculatorFowler homeowners dealing with the valley's intense summer heat should prioritize mulching vegetable garden pathways, not just planting beds. Bare soil between rows heats to extreme temperatures that radiate upward and stress plant stems and low-hanging fruit. Spreading three to four inches of straw or wood chip mulch along pathways keeps the entire garden microclimate measurably cooler, reduces reflected heat stress on foliage, and cuts down on the weed pressure that tends to explode in irrigated bare soil during July and August.

Delivering to Fowler, California
Primary ZIP: 93625Fowler properties with older fruit trees benefit from a late winter compost application timed just before bud break in late February or early March. Spreading two inches of bulk compost across the full root zone, which extends well beyond the drip line in mature trees, delivers a slow release of nutrients that supports vigorous spring growth and robust fruit set. Avoid digging the compost in near the root zone, simply layer it on the surface and let irrigation and rain carry it downward naturally.
