One of the easiest customer service experiences I've had in a long time! Mulch Mound made it so simple. After putting it off for a while, I looked at the weather and knew I needed to get to mulching ASAP before the rain came if I didn't want to wait another week. I put my order in for the next day online and they came right at 9 AM. The employee who dropped off the mulch did a great job, putting it right on the tarp I laid out, she even made sure none of it got on the yard and double checked the truck bed to make sure it all came out. The mulch was exactly what I needed and arrived right on time.
Landscape fabric underneath is what makes this a decade-long install instead of a five-year one, so budget for a roll of it if your beds do not already have a barrier down. Steel or aluminum edging keeps the rock line clean against St. Augustine lawns, which is the dominant turf around Victoria. If any bed also holds shrubs or perennials that want real soil feeding, keep those areas mulched separately since rock will not do that job.

Lay landscape fabric before the rock goes down, not after, and overlap seams by at least six inches. In Victoria's clay soil, skipping fabric lets rock settle into the ground within a couple seasons as the clay expands and contracts through wet and dry cycles, and once that happens the stone disappears into the mud and no amount of raking brings it back clean.

It costs less to have a small leftover pile for touch ups than to schedule a second delivery for one thin patch near the driveway.
Victoria sits on heavy clay that drains slowly and cracks wide open in late summer, which is exactly the kind of ground where organic mulch breaks down fast and rock does not. With zone 9a heat running long and humid, decorative rock over fabric keeps beds from turning into a mud pit during our wet spells while resisting the sun bleaching that fades cheaper mulch by August. It is a common choice around downspouts here since Victoria gets sudden heavy rain that would otherwise wash softer material out of the bed. Homeowners near the Courthouse district use it for that clean, low-maintenance look that does not need replacing every season.
