I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Fairview Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Many Fairview properties sit beneath established hardwoods that cast dense shade across large portions of the yard, limiting what will actually thrive in those conditions. Rather than struggling against the environment, plant shade-tolerant groundcovers like pachysandra, hostas, or native wild ginger and top the bed with 2 to 3 inches of finely shredded bark mulch. Shredded bark knits together better than chunk mulch on sloped shaded ground and retains the consistent moisture that shade-loving plants depend on through dry summer stretches.

Try Our CalculatorMulch depth is a detail many Fairview homeowners overlook, but getting it right protects plants and reduces maintenance significantly. Aim for two to three inches of shredded mulch across most planting beds. Areas with established perennials benefit from staying closer to two inches so crowns are not buried. Refresh the top layer each spring before the growing season fully kicks in to maintain coverage and continue suppressing weeds through Fairview's warm, humid summers.
Delivering to Fairview, New York

Fairview's silt loam soil is a good starting point, but raised beds take vegetable and herb gardening to another level in this area. Filling beds with a blend of compost, topsoil, and aged bark fines gives roots loose, fertile ground well above any compaction issues in native soil. Because Fairview experiences about 47 inches of rain annually, good drainage within the raised bed mix is critical. Use a well-structured blend rather than dense topsoil alone.
