One of the easiest customer service experiences I've had in a long time! Mulch Mound made it so simple. After putting it off for a while, I looked at the weather and knew I needed to get to mulching ASAP before the rain came if I didn't want to wait another week. I put my order in for the next day online and they came right at 9 AM. The employee who dropped off the mulch did a great job, putting it right on the tarp I laid out, she even made sure none of it got on the yard and double checked the truck bed to make sure it all came out. The mulch was exactly what I needed and arrived right on time.
Mason sand pairs naturally with paver base stone or crushed gravel on jobs where you need a compacted sub base under the sand layer. For mortar work, most crews order it alongside bagged cement or a lime mix picked up separately. If you are leaning toward pavers instead of a poured pool deck, ask about chip stone, it has become the more common bedding choice locally.
Mason sand is finer and more uniform than concrete sand, which is exactly why it works for mortar but is a poor choice for structural paver bedding on its own. If you are setting pavers, use it only as a thin leveling layer over a properly compacted base course, not as the base itself. Skipping the base course is the most common reason paver patios shift after a wet Henderson winter.
Red clay soil under a sand layer will hold water if drainage is not addressed first. Before spreading mason sand for a pool base or patio, grade the clay subgrade so water moves away from the structure, otherwise the sand layer can become saturated and lose its compaction over the freeze thaw swings common here from December through February.
If your project only needs sand for joint filling between pavers rather than mixing mortar, ask whether polymeric sand makes more sense, it locks joints in place and resists washout better during Henderson's heavy spring rain. Save straight mason sand for mortar mixing and pool base work where its fine texture is actually the advantage.
Henderson sits on red clay, which is great for holding moisture but useless for the fine, drainable work mason sand is built for. Most of the calls we get here are for mortar mixes on brick and block work, or for pool base leveling around the newer builds near Kerr Lake. With hardscape season running spring through fall in zone 7b, a lot of homeowners are also using it under pavers, though we tell folks chip stone handles that job better these days since it will not pump or wash out under freeze thaw cycles.
Masonry sand is washed and finely screened, the right choice for mortar work, paver joints, and sandboxes. Fill sand is coarser and less processed, better suited to leveling, bedding pipe, and filling low spots.
For pavers, screed a 1 inch sand bed over a compacted base rather than using sand to fix deep grade problems. A thin, even bed locks pavers in place. A thick one shifts underfoot.
Slightly damp sand spreads, screeds, and compacts far more easily than bone dry sand, which just flows back into your screed lines. Lightly wetting the pile before you work it saves real effort.
