My experience with Mulch Mound was great and super easy. I ordered two yards of screened topsoil and was able to get it delivered within 2 days. They came in my requested time frame (afternoon) and dropped it off where I asked on my driveway. The topsoil was exactly what was advertised, clean with no rocks or other debris. The price was reasonable. I plan to use them again in a couple weeks to order compost for my garden beds.

Salt spray off the lake burns tender foliage in Eden Isle, especially on the windward side of a house. Build your first line of defense with tolerant species such as yaupon holly, muhly grass, and oleander, then place fussier plants behind them. Topping beds with washed river gravel rather than shredded wood also helps, since gravel does not wick salt upward the way decomposing organic mulch can.

Switch to a three eighths to three quarter inch river gravel or a heavier double ground hardwood on any bed facing open water. If you prefer the look of organic mulch, edge the bed and keep the surface slightly recessed so wind skims over it.

Refresh the top third of every large pot each spring with a fresh soil and compost blend, and add a handful of coarse sand or perlite for drainage. That keeps root zones oxygenated through heavy rain and gives you the flexibility to move tender plants out of a cold snap.
