I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Lacombe Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Water sits close to the surface in much of Lacombe, so deep planting holes often turn into small ponds. Build raised beds eight to twelve inches above grade using a sandy loam and compost mix instead of digging down. Roots stay in the oxygenated upper layer, and your gardenias and hydrangeas avoid the root rot that claims so many plants set at natural grade here.

Try Our CalculatorLacombe's shaded lots under live oaks stay damp long after the sun comes out. Skip fine textured mulches in those areas, since they mat down and grow a crust of mold. A coarse pine bark or a mini nugget lets air move through and dries between rains. Keep the layer at two inches under heavy shade rather than the three you would use in full sun.

Delivering to Lacombe, Louisiana
Primary ZIP: 70445Do your grading work in fall. Lacombe soil is easiest to move between late September and the November 20 frost date, when the water table drops and the ground firms up. That is the window for building up a low side yard, cutting a swale, or setting a new bed. Material placed then has all winter to settle before spring planting season arrives.

Lacombe stretches between Bayou Lacombe and the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, and its low elevation shapes every landscape decision. Salt air, high water tables, and cypress bottomland make raised beds and coarse drainage material popular here. Our delivery routes reach the older village center as well as the newer homes tucked off Highway 190 and Bayou Paquet Road. Cypress mulch and coarse sand are the steady sellers.
