My experience with Mulch Mound was great and super easy. I ordered two yards of screened topsoil and was able to get it delivered within 2 days. They came in my requested time frame (afternoon) and dropped it off where I asked on my driveway. The topsoil was exactly what was advertised, clean with no rocks or other debris. The price was reasonable. I plan to use them again in a couple weeks to order compost for my garden beds.

Ask for the drop on a tarp in the driveway rather than the street so you can sweep clean afterward, and plan to move three to four yards a day with a wheelbarrow. Order in the cool half of the year if you can. October and November deliveries let you spread comfortably and get the mulch down before winter rain.

Oak roots in Live Oak yards run wide and shallow, well past the drip line, and they resent disturbance. When adding beds under a mature oak, do not till or add more than an inch or two of material over the root zone, and never build a raised bed against the trunk. Hand dig planting holes and accept a few relocations when you hit a major root.
Live Oak stretches between Santa Cruz and Capitola with a mix of older cottages, newer infill, and generously sized backyards. Many of those lots hold big shade trees, sloped side yards, and long fence lines that need refreshing every year or two. Bulk bark and compost make quick work of that scale of project.
