I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Soquel Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Steep Soquel hillsides shed soil fast during the first heavy rain, and loose bark simply floats away. Use shredded bark or wood fiber mulch instead of nuggets, because the interlocking strands knit together and stay put on grade. On slopes steeper than about three to one, add jute netting beneath the layer and plant deep rooted natives through it. Aim to have everything in place before mid November storms.

Try Our CalculatorSoquel's redwood shaded properties collect deep needle duff that turns acidic over the years. Test soil pH before planting vegetables or fruit, and expect readings near five and a half under mature trees. Work in compost and a dusting of agricultural lime to bring beds toward neutral. In beds you want acidic, such as blueberries, camellias, and rhododendrons, leave the needle layer in place as free mulch.

Delivering to Soquel, California
Primary ZIP: 95073Gophers and deer both work Soquel neighborhoods hard, especially on lots backing to open ground. Line new raised beds with half inch hardware cloth before adding soil, and cage the root balls of young fruit trees. A three inch mulch layer will not stop gophers, but it makes fresh mounds obvious so you can trap early before a tunnel network spreads under the whole yard.

Soquel village and the creek canyons above it hold some of the most heavily shaded, tree covered properties in the county. Redwoods, steep driveways, and streamside lots make material handling a real consideration. Bulk bark, pathway fines, and compost serve those wooded gardens well. MulchMound delivers to Soquel addresses including the tighter canyon roads off Soquel Drive.
