I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Newark Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Newark's proximity to San Francisco Bay means salt-laden winds can stress landscape plants, especially those placed along exposed fences or property edges. Selecting salt-tolerant species such as New Zealand flax, seaside daisy, or California coffeeberry gives your Newark yard a fighting chance against this invisible threat. Incorporate a generous amount of compost into planting holes to boost soil biology and help new plants build stronger root systems before their first summer.

Try Our CalculatorNewark residents with bare or sparsely planted side yards can dramatically reduce maintenance by installing a gravel or decomposed granite mulch layer over weed-suppressing landscape fabric. This approach eliminates the need for regular mowing or trimming in low-traffic areas, and the light-colored surface reflects heat away from adjacent structures during warm inland days. Choose a rounded pea gravel for a softer aesthetic or angular crushed rock for a more contemporary look that complements modern Newark home styles.
