I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Sandwich Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Sandwich yards catch a lot of open prairie wind, which dries new plantings faster than most people expect. Build a shallow saucer of soil around each new shrub, roughly three inches high at the outer edge of the root ball, so irrigation water pools and soaks down instead of running off. Fill that basin slowly twice a week through the first summer. Remove the berm in year two once roots have spread.

Try Our CalculatorTime your Sandwich mulch delivery for late April, right around the last frost date of April 28. Spreading too early traps cold in the soil and delays root activity in perennial beds. Wait until the ground has warmed, pull old mulch back from crowns, then lay two to three inches of hardwood. Keep it two inches off tree trunks and shrub stems so bark stays dry and voles have nowhere to hide.

Delivering to Sandwich, Illinois
Primary ZIP: 60548Sandwich sits on silt loam that holds moisture well but crusts hard after a heavy rain dries out. Before seeding a new lawn area, rake the surface open a half inch rather than seeding onto that crust. Seed drops into the loose texture, makes contact, and germinates evenly. A quarter inch of screened topsoil or compost over the seed keeps it from washing during our 33 inches of annual rain.
Get Started with Mulch mound Today
Out in DeKalb County, Sandwich blends small town blocks with the surrounding prairie farmland, and yards here tend to run large. Homeowners working with deep silt loam and open exposure often need topsoil and pulverized black dirt in real quantity rather than a few bags. We deliver mulch, screened soil, and decorative gravel to Sandwich properties along Route 34 and the county roads beyond. Larger loads mean fewer trips and a better rate per yard.
