I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Staunton Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Staunton gardeners can significantly cut down on summer weeding by layering landscape fabric beneath a full three to four inches of bulk shredded hardwood mulch in ornamental beds. The combination blocks light from reaching weed seeds already in the soil while the mulch layer suppresses new growth blowing in from the open fields surrounding town. Place your order with MulchMound.com in late April, just after Staunton's last frost window closes, and you will spend far less time pulling weeds all summer long.

Try Our CalculatorStaunton's zone 6b winters can bring hard freezes by November 1, which makes fall mulching critical for protecting perennial roots. Apply 3 to 4 inches of shredded hardwood mulch around shrubs and perennial beds before the first frost to insulate roots and reduce heaving. Come spring, pull mulch back slightly from plant crowns after April 12 to allow air circulation and prevent crown rot as new growth begins.
Delivering to Staunton, Illinois

Staunton's silt loam soil absorbs rainfall well under normal conditions but can compact over time on slopes, leading to runoff and topsoil loss during heavy spring rains. Covering sloped landscape areas with 2 to 3 inches of shredded mulch significantly slows water movement and keeps soil in place. Pairing mulch with deep-rooted native ground covers adds long-term stability to any erosion-prone sections of your Staunton yard.
