I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Albany Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Albany gardeners dealing with clay loam soil should incorporate a 3-inch layer of gypsum-amended compost into planting beds before the rainy season begins. This practice breaks up compacted clay particles, improves drainage, and gives plant roots room to establish. Ordering a bulk compost delivery from MulchMound.com ensures you have enough material to treat all your beds at once rather than making multiple trips to a garden center.

Try Our CalculatorAlbany residents can extend the life of their garden beds by applying a fresh 2-inch top-dressing of wood chip mulch each spring before temperatures climb. This layer regulates soil temperature, suppresses warm-season weeds, and reduces the need for frequent irrigation during the dry summer months. A bulk mulch delivery from MulchMound.com makes it easy to refresh every bed in one afternoon rather than hauling small bags repeatedly.

Delivering to Albany, California
Primary ZIP: 94706Because Albany sits close to the bay, salt-laden winds can stress plants with tender foliage during certain seasons. Choosing wind-tolerant natives like toyon, coffeeberry, and coyote brush for exposed borders reduces maintenance considerably. Once established, these plants thrive with minimal supplemental water, and a 3-inch mulch layer around their root zones helps retain the limited moisture they do receive during Albany's dry summers.
