I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Covina Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Covina homeowners dealing with compacted clay pockets mixed into their sandy loam should consider topdressing lawn areas with a blend of coarse sand and compost each fall. This combination slowly works into the turf profile, loosening the soil structure and improving drainage over one to two seasons. Apply no more than a quarter inch at a time so existing grass blades are not smothered. Consistent annual topdressing is one of the most effective long-term strategies for a lush, even lawn in the San Gabriel Valley.

Try Our CalculatorCovina residents can extend the productivity of vegetable gardens well into fall and winter by planting cool-season crops like kale, lettuce, broccoli, and spinach in late September. With the first frost not arriving until December 4, there is a generous window for these crops to mature before cold sets in. Prepare beds by working in a few inches of compost and finish with a light mulch layer to keep soil evenly moist as temperatures begin to drop through October and November.

Delivering to Covina, California
Primary ZIP: 91723Covina homeowners with established trees should inspect root zones each spring for signs of soil compaction caused by foot traffic or parking. Compacted soil around tree bases restricts oxygen and water from reaching feeder roots, stressing even mature trees over time. Loosen the surrounding soil lightly with a garden fork and apply a wide ring of wood chip mulch extending to the drip line. This simple step significantly improves tree health and reduces the need for supplemental watering during summer.
