I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Hannibal's position along the Mississippi River means many properties sit on low-lying ground that stays saturated after heavy spring rains. To combat poor drainage in planting beds, work a two to three inch layer of coarse river gravel into the soil before adding topsoil on top. This creates a simple drainage layer that helps roots breathe and reduces standing water around shrubs and perennials throughout Hannibal's wet spring season.

Try Our CalculatorHannibal homeowners dealing with silt loam soil should apply a 2 to 3 inch layer of hardwood mulch over landscape beds to suppress weeds before they take hold in spring. Laying mulch after your last frost around April 15 gives beds a clean start. Avoid piling mulch directly against plant stems, as this traps moisture and encourages rot in the warm, humid summers common along the river corridor.
Delivering to Hannibal, Missouri
Primary ZIP: 63401+1 ZIP codes
Hannibal's silt loam soil is naturally fertile but can compact over time, especially in high-traffic yard areas. Mixing a 2 to 3 inch layer of bulk compost into planting beds each fall helps restore structure and improves root growth before winter sets in. With first frost arriving around October 15, early fall is the ideal window to work amendments in and let them settle before the ground freezes.
