I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Pomona Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Pomona's hot inland summers mean that soil temperatures in unshaded garden beds can exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit at the surface, stressing shallow-rooted plants and accelerating moisture loss. Applying a thick 4 inch layer of coarse wood chip mulch around all planting beds before June significantly moderates ground temperature and can reduce surface soil temps by 15 to 20 degrees. For best results, keep the mulch pulled a few inches away from plant stems and tree trunks to prevent crown rot during the brief but sometimes heavy rainfall of late winter.

Try Our CalculatorPomona's position in the inland valley means it receives some of the strongest Santa Ana wind events in Los Angeles County, which can desiccate plants and strip moisture from topsoil very rapidly in fall and early winter. Creating windbreak rows using fast-growing native shrubs like Coyote Bush or Mexican Elderberry along your property's north and east edges reduces wind exposure for the rest of your landscape. Mulching generously beneath and around windbreak plantings helps them establish faster and withstand the stressful dry conditions that accompany strong wind events.

Delivering to Pomona, California
Primary ZIP: 91766Pomona gardeners growing subtropical fruit trees like avocados, figs, or citrus should apply a generous ring of wood chip mulch extending from the trunk out to the full drip line of each tree every spring. In Pomona's intense summer heat, unprotected soil beneath fruit trees loses moisture rapidly and can develop a hard crust that prevents water from penetrating to the root zone. A four inch mulch layer maintains soil moisture, regulates temperature, and breaks down gradually to feed the shallow feeder roots that subtropical fruit trees rely on most.
Get Started with Mulch mound Today
Pomona sits at the eastern edge of the Los Angeles Basin where the climate runs a bit hotter and drier than coastal cities, placing extra demands on landscaping materials that can hold moisture and protect soil structure. MulchMound.com delivers bulk mulch, topsoil, and gravel to Pomona residential and commercial customers, helping properties withstand the intense summer heat that pushes inland from the coast. The city's diverse neighborhoods range from historic downtown blocks to newer subdivisions in the foothills, and we tailor our delivery approach for each area. Pomona gardeners trust us to deliver the volume they need, on time.
