I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Sallisaw Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Sallisaw's clay-heavy soils shed water quickly during heavy rain events, making erosion control a real concern for sloped yards and bare planting beds. Spreading a 2 to 3 inch layer of shredded hardwood mulch over exposed soil significantly reduces the speed at which rainwater moves across the surface. For steeper slopes, combining mulch with native ground cover plantings creates a living barrier that holds soil in place long-term. Ordering mulch in bulk from MulchMound.com makes it affordable to cover large problem areas all at once.

Try Our CalculatorSallisaw gardeners dealing with persistent weeds in landscape beds will find that laying a single layer of cardboard directly over soil before applying bulk mulch can dramatically cut down on regrowth. The cardboard breaks down over one growing season, feeding soil organisms as it decomposes. Top it with three to four inches of hardwood mulch and expect far fewer weeds pushing through by midsummer.

Native plants suited to Sallisaw's Zone 8a climate, such as Arkansas bluestar, native coneflower, and switchgrass, thrive in local clay loam without heavy soil amendment. Planting natives in fall, before the November frost window, gives roots time to establish through winter. A two inch layer of shredded hardwood mulch over the root zone protects young plants through cold snaps and reduces spring watering demands considerably.
