I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Tulare Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Tulare soils often test high in pH and sodium, which locks up iron and leaves shrubs yellow between the veins. Work 2 to 3 inches of compost into the top 8 inches before planting rather than relying on fertilizer alone. Gypsum helps loosen sodium heavy clay over a season or two. Retest every couple of years so you are amending based on numbers, not guesswork.

Try Our CalculatorTulare clay loam takes water slowly, so a long single run mostly produces runoff down the sidewalk. Cycle and soak instead, running three short cycles of about 8 minutes with 30 to 45 minutes between them. The soil absorbs each pass before the next begins, and moisture reaches 12 inches deep where roots live. Established trees and shrubs stay far healthier on that schedule through July and August.

Primary ZIP: 93274Dairy country means compost is easy to find in Tulare, but not all of it is finished. Immature compost still smells sharp like ammonia and will steal nitrogen from your plants as it continues breaking down. Finished material smells earthy, looks dark and crumbly, and no longer heats up in the pile. Ask for a screened, aged product when you order for planting beds.
Get Started with Mulch mound Today
Tulare balances dairy country on its edges with tidy residential blocks and expanding commercial frontage along Highway 99. Landscapes here contend with alkaline clay loam and barely 10 inches of annual rain. Bulk compost, topsoil, and mulch from MulchMound arrive in one load sized to the actual project. Contractors working the Tulare fairgrounds corridor order by the yard for a reason.
