I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Cotati Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Cotati gardeners preparing vegetable beds for spring planting should order bulk compost in late February, well before the March 31 last frost date. Working aged compost into the soil four to six weeks before transplanting allows soil microbes to activate and nutrients to become plant-available just as seedlings go in. This timing gives warm-season crops like tomatoes and squash an immediate nutritional boost right from transplant day.

Try Our CalculatorCotati homeowners with established trees and shrubs should apply a fresh ring of bulk wood chip mulch each fall, keeping a two inch gap around the base of each trunk. A four inch layer spread out to the drip line conserves soil moisture through the dry summer months, moderates soil temperature, and gradually feeds the root zone as chips break down. This low effort annual routine makes a noticeable difference in plant health and drought resilience.

Delivering to Cotati, California
Primary ZIP: 94931Cotati residents dealing with heavy clay soils common to parts of Sonoma County can improve drainage significantly by blending bulk gypsum and compost into planting beds. Apply two to three inches of compost across the surface and work it in alongside gypsum to break up clay particles and improve soil structure. This combination creates a more hospitable root environment and reduces the waterlogging that can damage roots during Cotati's wet winter rainy season.
