I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Cudahy Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
Cudahy gardeners dealing with persistently dry soil under established trees should look into applying a deep root watering technique alongside a fresh layer of organic mulch around the drip line. Watering slowly and deeply once a week encourages tree roots to grow downward rather than spreading shallowly toward the surface. Combining deep watering with a thick mulch layer dramatically reduces evaporation, meaning less time with the hose and a healthier tree overall.

Try Our CalculatorCudahy residents working with compact urban lots can maximize limited planting space by building up raised garden beds filled with a quality topsoil and compost blend. Native clay loam at grade level drains poorly and limits root depth for vegetables and flowering perennials. Raising beds even eight to twelve inches above grade gives roots the loose, nutrient-rich environment they need while keeping the overall footprint small and manageable for a densely developed neighborhood setting.

Cudahy homeowners looking to reduce lawn maintenance without sacrificing curb appeal should consider converting turf strips along sidewalks to a decorative ground cover mulch or river rock. These narrow turf areas are notoriously difficult to water efficiently, often leading to runoff onto sidewalks and wasted water. Replacing them with a clean layer of bark mulch or smooth river rock reduces water use, eliminates mowing along tight edges, and gives the streetscape a tidy, modern look.
