I used Mulch Mound to have 3 cubic yards of garden soil delivered. The process was easy and I love that I didn't have to call anyone. I placed my order online, picked my delivery date, laid out my tarp and the dirt was delivered. My delivery had to be pushed back, but I was kept informed via text, which was great. So why not 5 stars? The description of garden soil on the website is "A balanced mix of topsoil and organic amendments ready for raised beds, flower gardens, and new planting areas. Good drainage, solid nutrients, easy to work with." What I got was more like fill dirt. It had a lot of gravel, a lot of clay, and random trash mixed in. I didn't test the soil to see if it actually had "amendments" because I already have compost and alpaca manure ready to add, but if I'd known the quality of the dirt was going to be the same as the bagged dirt I bought last year, I probably would have gotten 2 yards of top soil and a yard of leaf compost for better quality, especially since the leaf compost is cheaper. Photo of my mountain of dirt and just some of the trash I found in it.

Complete Your Duarte Outdoor Project
We’ve got you covered with our full line of landscape supply products, from premium mulch and quality soil to decorative stone, helping you create a cohesive, professional landscape that enhances your property for years to come.
In Duarte, clay loam soil can become compacted and waterlogged during the winter rainy season. Mixing a generous layer of organic compost, two to three inches deep, into your planting beds each fall helps break up that dense soil structure and improves drainage before roots sit in saturated ground. This simple annual amendment keeps ornamentals and fruit trees thriving without expensive regrading work.

Try Our CalculatorDuarte homeowners planting native California shrubs like toyon, coffeeberry, or ceanothus should top-dress the root zone with a coarse bark mulch rather than a fine material. Coarser mulch allows for better air circulation at the soil surface, which these drought-adapted natives prefer after establishment. A three-inch layer spread to the drip line conserves soil moisture through Duarte summers while mimicking the natural leaf litter conditions under which these plants thrive in the local foothills.

Delivering to Duarte, California
Primary ZIP: 91010Duarte residents installing a new lawn or overseeding thin turf areas this fall should start with a quality topsoil base to ensure even germination across the entire area. Thin or inconsistent soil depth is a leading cause of patchy lawn establishment, particularly in yards where clay loam compaction varies from one section to another. A bulk topsoil delivery gives you enough material to grade the area evenly and create a consistent planting depth from edge to edge before seed goes down.
